The Friends of Zeekoevlei and Rondevlei (FOZR)
The Friends of Zeekoevlei and Rondevlei is an apolitical, community-based non-profit organisation that aims to assist the nature reserve authorities to protect the much-threatened flora and fauna that make this corner of the Cape Flats their home. Since our inception in September 2006 we have:
- Played a vital role in helping the City of Cape Town achieve the status of a Ramsar City – our founding members initiated the application for False Bay Nature Reserve to be declared a Ramsar Site – which was the first stepping stone to getting the City the Ramsar status that it enjoys today.
- We do create awareness about the challenges that the area faces and we strive to work alongside our Partners: Community, FBNR, PAAC, CoCT Water & Sanitation Dept, Reticulation, Solid Waste, Catchment Management, Litter Boom Project, Pristine Earth Collective, Nature Connect)
- Through the hard work of the FoZR Green Team we help to create employment and remove solid waste and alien vegetation from our waterbodies. The Green Team is employed as often as our finances allow to conduct boat based clean ups which result in loads of litter removed from the Vlei!
